Cutout Install On Hans' 1970 Torino Cobra

I purchased some exhaust cutouts from WWW.badlanzhpe.com. They are similar to other brands out there, but the price was right and Charles Gerst of BadlanzHPE, Inc. was very helpful. I have heard pro and cons about other systems, But being that have not owned them I cannot compare them to this system, I can say it works just fine for me.  Some come with Y adaptors that I feel you don't need, your welder can make them for you and probably cheaper, It cost me $150 get mine installed. I took the car to Advanced Performance Muffler in Hesperia to get them installed, Mike there did a great job welding them up. Now that they are installed I can say they sound great I do recommend a turnout after the cutout it sounds better than open headers dumping under your car, to much interior resonance. The valves open and close easily although it does take some practice to close them properly as you don't want to over work the motors and if you hold the switch to long the valves have a tendency to reopen a little.  Overall so far I like them and would recommend them to others, below are picture of the install, click on pictures to enlarge. Thanks to Chuck at Badlanz, and Mike at Advanced Performance Muffler.

3-1/2" valves with flange adaptors which allows you to connect to smaller pipe.System comes with 1 set of adaptors I bought an extra set of adaptors to connect to both side of butterfly so I could add a turn out after the cutouts.

Large 3-1/2 butterfly valves.

System as it came from BadlanzHPE.

Exhaust before install. Hooker headers with 3-1/2" collectors to 2-1/2" pipe thru Flowmasters Delta Flow 40 mufflers.

The Badlanz system broke down. 3 1/2" valves, Flange adaptors 3" to 3 1/2" (they also come in different sizes and with out flanges so you can weld straight to pipe, I had to cut mine off), gaskets. nuts and bolts.

3" pipe from collector to cutout flange 2-1/2" pipe spliced in which then exits out the back thru some Flowmasters. They sound real good on their own.

Mike doing a little welding.

Ready for butterfly valves. I did it a little different than most in that the cutouts come straight out which I think gives better sound and flow. Others do it exhaust straight out and cutouts to the side.

This is where the extra flange comes in handy it allows you to add a turn out to get the sound out from under the car which in my opinion sounds better than plain open headers.

Electric Butterfly valves on. They open and close from a toggle switch at the console.

System complete with turn out. open the cutouts and it's straight thru no mufflers (loud).

System finished exhaust exits from 3" pipe from header collectors thru 3 1/2" valves and out the turnouts when you open the valves.

close the valves and the exhaust exit via the 2 1/2" pipe thru the flowmasters.
